Final Report Identification of promising Twin hub networks
The objective of the first work package is to identify potential promising partial Twin hub networks in North West Europe which already exist to establish the foundation for the project, as well as to show the magnitude of the modal shift and the improved rail network connectivity. A network is promising if its door-to-door transport costs are competitive with the reference mode (in most cases = road transport), while the transport quality, in particular transport frequency, meets the needs of shippers. The final report of Work Package 1 can be downloaded.
Final report General Functional Description Twin Hub Order Booking system
Within WP 2 an interactive booking information system has been developed. It is a joint system for the operators in the project. Interactive means that information can be shared at a deeper level than a system, which is only interconnected at the surface. This development will improve the load planning, matching the train capacity of one operator with the flows of another and vice versa. Download the final report.

Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Annual International Conference
27-30 August 2013, London, UK
Session abstract: Seamless Freight Transport
Freight transport flows are a major contributor to environmental, social and economic problems. Seamlessness relates to the optimal use of resources through the implementation of concepts such as modal interconnectivity, innovation and collaboration, with the aim of encouraging sustainable economic growth and enhancing societal welfare. Within the freight transport arena, this involves initiatives at different geographical scales (e.g. city logistics; cross-border trade; combination of long distance and local freight movements) and involving differing groups of actors from the private and public sectors.
Ekki Kreutzberger (TU Delft) presented the Twin hub project in relation to seamless freight transport.

Ports, Terminals & Intermodal Transport 2013; Strategies, developments & Innovations
6-7 February 2013, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Ports, Terminals & Intermodal Transport 2013 is designed to get the industry and the policy makers on one platform to discuss the importance of ports & terminals development, intermodal transport and to share opinions as to the future development plans. In particular, examples of practical solutions implemented in companies were presented in the fields of cost reduction, cooperation, investment & financing, and infrastructure development.
Ekki Kreutzberger (TU Delft) presented the Twin hub project as a case study.

Transportation Research Board 92nd Annual Meeting: Deploying Transportation Research - Doing Things Smarter, Better, Faster
13-17 January 2013, Washington DC, USA
The TRB Annual Meeting program covered all transportation modes, with more than 4,000 presentations in nearly 750 sessions and workshops addressing topics of interest to all attendees—policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. More than 40 sessions and workshops addressed the spotlight theme for 2013: Deploying Transportation Research - Doing Things Smarter, Better, Faster.

Vervoerslogistieke werkdagen
29-30 November 2012, Venlo, Netherlands
The ‘Vervoerslogistieke werkdagen’ (Logistical Transport Business Days) are an initiative of a number of people from educational and research institutes, public authorities and the industry. The initiators want to create a platform where Dutch and Flemish representatives of different community groups meet each other and discuss opportunities, needs and bottlenecks of cargo traffic, transport and distribution.
Ekki Kreutzberger (TU Delft) presented the Twin hub network as an innovative concept to boost competitiveness of intermodal rail transport to the hinterland.
